Rashidi Sokolo Project Worker, Tanzania.: |
 |
| Qualifications: |
Certificate in Social Work, Institute of Social Work, Dar Es Salaam (2006)
Certificate in Art. |
| Related Experience: |
Before joining the Youth In Need Project, Rashidi worked with street children at Amani Children's Home. As a Project Worker, his role was to co-ordinate arts/crafts and recreational activities. His other duties included night supervisor and he was the Key Worker to 5 children (offering emotional support and 1-to-1 counselling sessions). Rashidi also worked closely to support volunteers from other organisations who undertake short-term volunteer placements at Amani Children's Centre. This aspect was included in Rashidi's role as he was one of the few workers at Amani who could speak fluent English.
Rashidi also has experience of setting up new projects, and empowering young people. He has established an art group in Moshi, where he teaches and passes on his knowledge and skills learnt at Art College to the teenagers that attend.
Rashidi has a similar role within the Youth In Need Project to that he had previously at Amani Children's home. He will have further responsibilities and have an active role as a street educator, building relationships with young people living on the street to encourage them to move from the street to the unit. |
