Friends Of Youth In Need is a Registered Charity in the UK (Registered Charity 1108508). Friends of Youth In Need's charitable purposes are recognised by the Charity Commission as promoting the relief of poverty, financial hardship and the advancement of education. The charity has been registered since March 2005.

The Board Of Trustees are responsible for running the Charity's affairs, in a prudent manner, by setting strategic aims & objectives and managing the direction & finances of the charity. These responsibilities are set in accordance with the charity's governing document. The primary aim of Friends of Youth In Need in the UK is to secure funding to meet the objectives of the project's initiatives within Tanzania.

The Youth In Need Project Tanzania is a registered body in Tanzania incorporated under the provisions of the Trustees' Incorporation Ordinance (Certificate of Incorporation No.3133). The Project obtained it's certification in July 2006.

The management team of Friends Of Youth In Need in the UK consists of three professionals, including two Social Workers, who have the relevant skills and experience to ensure that the charity is run both effectively and efficiently.

Related Experience: Since 2001, Sarah has practiced as a qualified Social Worker within the field of Children and Families with Local Authority Social Services Departments.
This has provided Sarah with a variety of experiences, roles and responsibilities. These include organisational responsibilities, budget control, allocation of resources, accountability and working with other organisations towards a shared goal.
Her professional role has provided her with the opportunity and ability to understand to the difficulties faced by street youth and Maasai children in Tanzania. Sarah also has hands-on experience of the needs of street children from working as a volunteer at Amani Children's Home in Moshi, Tanzania for 6 weeks in the summer of 2004.

Mrs Julia Mckee

Related Experience: Julia graduated from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College, High Wycombe, in 2000. After qualifying as a Social Worker, she worked in the Family Support Team within a Local Authority Social Services Department for four years. Julia thus had the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic and diverse team, and gained experience of working within a large organisation.
In addition, Julia acquired significant understanding of the roles & responsibilities required of professionals working with children in need and their families.
Professionally Julia has had the opportunity to work with some very needy families. In particular, she spent a period of time in the USA working with children with ADHD, which she found was a very positive experience.

Mr Jack Pemba
International football promoter, Vice President of Global Scouting Bureau:

Other details: Jack is originally from Tanzania, but has lived in the UK for many years and has a keen interest in supporting young people from his home country. Jack is an international football promoter and is the Vice President of Global Scouting Bureau (GSB). He is also the Vice President of the Players Football Association of Tanzania and has been working closely with the Tanzanian Sports Council to develop and promote opportunities for young athletes.
Jack has made personal monetary donations to various organisations including the Tanzanian Youth National Team (Serengeti boys) and Ashanti United Football Team, he has also sponsored various cultural events. He has developed a partnership between GSB and Makongo High School in Dar Es Salaam, which provides young people with education and a football scholarship.
Jack is well respected in Tanzania by government officials and the community. Being Tanzanian, Jack fully understands the difficulties that young people in Tanzania face and is able to offer advice and guidance, to promote the Youth In Need Project and to help it achieve it's goals.

Youth In Need Project is a registered Tanzanian Trust (Tanzania Trustees Incorporation No.3133).

The Board of Trustees in Tanzania is made up of founding members of the project and other independent members. This brings a variety of skills and knowledge to the Board to ensure that the Trust is run efficiently and effectively.

Other awards: UNICEF Maurice Pate Award - Theo was a member of the team working at Kuleana Centre for Children's Rights who received this award in 1999. (Awarded to Individuals or Organisations whose work embodies the spirit of UNICEF's mission of protecting and promoting the health, welfare and general well-being of children.)
Related Experience: Theo has worked for many years with vulnerable young people in Tanzania. His commitment and experience will be invaluable to Youth In Need. Prior to working for the Youth In Need Project, Theo was at the Mkombozi Centre for street children. His role there was as Day Supervisor, which meant he was responsible for the running of the centre in a managerial position, but continued to work directly with the children.
Before this Theo worked at Kuleana Centre for Children Rights. Initially Theo's role was of a Street Educator. This included counselling street children, developing relationships to encourage moving off the street and into the centre, and assisting with the rehabilitation of children back to their communities. He progressed to the role of Director of the centre, which broadened his experience of supervising staff, managing budgets and collaborating with other NGO's to improve the service to street children.
His experience also includes exchange visits to NGO's working with street children in Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) and Nairobi (Kenya).
He also has experience of strategic planning and organisational development. He has attended workshops to enhance his knowledge of these issues.
Theo can speak fluent Swahili, Sukukma and English.

Mr David Bashumika

Related Experience: David has the administrative knowledge and skills of setting up and running a business. He also has the experience of working directly with vulnerable children.
He is currently self-employed running his own business, 'Davis General Supplies' since 2000. His company has a shop in Arusha that sells mobile phones and related accessories.
David worked as the Administration Manager for a centre for street children in Tanzania between 1995-2000.
David can speak fluent Swahili and English.

Related Experience: Davis is currently working as an External Relations Coordinator (EDC Inc Tz), and has been in this post since 2003. Davis is responsible for:
- training Mentors for Community learning centres,
- establishing 298 community learning centres in 10 districts for child labourers,
- establishing and maintaining work relationships with 11 districts.
Davis has a lot of experience of working with and for Non Government Organisations, especially in a developmental role.

The Board of Trustees in Tanzania is being finalised. Youth In Need project has a committed team of founding members (see below), who are driving the project forward.

Rashidi Sokolo
Project Worker, Tanzania.

Related Experience: Before joining the Youth In Need Project, Rashidi worked with street children at Amani Children's Home. As a Project Worker, his role was to co-ordinate arts/crafts and recreational activities.
His other duties included night supervisor and he was the Key Worker to 5 children (offering emotional support and 1-to-1 counselling sessions).
Rashidi also worked closely to support volunteers from other organisations who undertake short-term volunteer placements at Amani Children's Centre. This aspect was included in Rashidi's role as he was one of the few workers at Amani who could speak fluent English.
Rashidi also has experience of setting up new projects, and empowering young people.
He has established an art group in Moshi, where he teaches and passes on his knowledge and skills learnt at Art College to the teenagers that attend.
Rashidi has a similar role within the Youth In Need Project to that he had previously at Amani Children's home.
He will have further responsibilities and have an active role as a street educator, building relationships with young people living on the street to encourage them to move from the street to the unit.

Paschal Lazaro

Related Experience: Paschal also has many years experience of working with vulnerable children, working for both statutory agencies and NGO's.
Paschal began his career in social work in 1978, when he worked for the Ministry of Work and Social Welfare. He then moved on to work in a centre for the rehabilitation of disabled children and, following this, the Kurasini Children home for orphaned children.
Before Paschal qualified as a Social Worker he became self employed and ran his own business, Metal Fabrication Workshop.
Since qualifying he has worked as a social worker for the Rollingstone Multipurpose Foundation and currently at the Mkombozi Centre for Street Children.
He is involved in the day-to-day running of Mkombozi, and through his direct work with children, he undertakes home visits and the rehabilitation of children back home to their families.
Paschal has a particular interest in the various cultures of the different tribes in Tanzania. He has researched and studied 10 different tribes, which is useful when developing relationships with street children and promoting their identity.
Paschal will practice as a Social Worker within the Youth In Need Project, providing a similar role to that performed at Mkombozi.
Paschal can speak fluent Swahili, Haya and English.
